In a son- preferred patriarchal Roma community in Transylvania, women often resort to sex-selective abortion. Moreover, marriages are arranged here by parents by taking into account the cash dowries and men’s valuables. We follow the couple Peli and Nina, parents to a little girl who strive to conceive a son to inherit the family’s badge, the chalice. Lest they do so they will resort to sex selective abortion or their arranged marriage might break. This puts Nina under considerable pressure but nobody around commiserates with her.
