Basic characteristics and ideas of the festival

The idea of the IFF ETNOFILM ČADCA consists in presenting and confronting contemporary worldwide documentary and ethnographic film production. What he festival mainly aims at is to present the latest documentaries on cultural and social diversity of human communities as well to raise awareness of the general public, filmmakers, scientists and media on the need to protect the diversity, to support the creation of new films, to support student and non-professional production, to contribute to the development of Slovak film production of visual anthropology, to organize professional and educational events during the festival itself.
The IFF ETNOFILM ČADCA 2022 will be paying special attention to the films depicting the cultural diversity of the peoples of Europe, which is the basis of Europe's cultural heritage.

Terms and Conditions of Participation

a / Films can be registered into the competition by creators, producers, distributors - institutions, as well as individual entities.

b / Creators, producers, distributors - institutions as well as individual entities can register an unlimited number of films. Registration of the first film in the competition is free of charge. In case of registration of a higher number of films (more than 1), the registration fee has been set at 5.00 Euros. This fee / fees shall be paid to the organizer's account number no later than June 10th, 2022 (before the Judging Committee meeting). The variable symbol shall be determined by the applicant and shall also be included in the application (if the applicant registers more than 2 films, the same variable symbol shall be applicable for each additional application and the respective payment can be made AT ONCE). The films for which the registration fee is not paid by the given deadline will not be included in the selection process. The festival organizers are not bound to pay the fees related to the screening of the film.

c / The applicant shall fill in the free online application form available on the website of the festival www.etnofilm.sk and shall submit it no later than May 30th, 2022 so that the film can be registered by the Judging Committee. The fee for each registered film shall be paid no later than June 10th, 2022.

d / The films produced after January 1st, 2020 and not registered at the 21st year of IFF ETNOFILM ČADCA may be accepted for the current competition.

e / The registering entity hereby declares on oath that the entity is entitled to register the film in the competition and does not infringe any copyright and license rights. The organizer is not responsible for possible violations of law resulting from unauthorized registration of films into the competition.

The selection process from among the registered films will be performed by the appointed Judging Committee on the ground of individual audio-visual recordings.

The Judging Committee is appointed by the director of the Kysuce Cultural Center in Čadca upon the proposal of the Preparatory Committee of the IFF ETNOFILM ČADCA 2022.

 

Registration Specifications

Films can be registered from March 1st, 2022.

a / Registration of the film shall be understood as proper filling of the electronic application form and its submission no later than May 30th, 2022. In case of submission of more than one film, the registration fee shall be paid not later than by June 10th, 2022.

b / The film can be submitted to the organizer electronically via a video line /e.g. via VIMEO, YouTube and other video channels /, in case of a secure movie do not forget to enter the password.

c / A list of dialogues in the Slovak or English language version of the submitted film is a necessity and shall be uploaded via the application form.

d / The film promotion materials must be sent within the electronic application form as given below: synopsis, information about the director / filmography, 1 photograph of the director, 3 photographs from the film (poster), video trailer in the length no exceeding 2 minutes.

e / Technical requirements for registered films: video files in the recommended projection format HD 1080p, codec H264 or X264, H265, container mp4, mov, mkv.

f / During the festival, the registered films shall be used for the purpose of film screening. After the end of the festival, they will be saved in the archives of the IFF ETNOFILM ČADCA for documentation and possible use for exclusively non-commercial purposes (research, education, post-festival film screenings).

g / Failure to meet the above requirements entitles the organizer not to include the film in the competition.

h / The registration of the submitted application form with all the required attachments will be confirmed by the organizer electronically. Assessment

Films included in the international competition are assessed by an International Expert Jury appointed by the Preparatory Committee of the IFF ETNOFILM ČADCA and deciding on the award. The Jury may award one or more certificates of merit or none of them. The decisions of the Jury are conclusive.

The Martin Slivka Award - for the best individual performance to a Slovak artist - is awarded by the Literary Fund

Ethnologist behind the camera - award by the Ethnographic Society of Slovakia

Audience Award - awarded by the Mayor of the Town of Čadca

The International Jury and the festival director may decide to award further prizes.

The award-winning filmmakers are entitled to be mentioning the award in the further promotion of the film.

 

Funding

The costs associated with the organization, course and promotion of the event are covered by the main organizers. The financial, material, or other forms of support are provided by the co-organizers, partners, and sponsors of the festival. Expenses related to the participation in the festival are paid by the participants themselves. Participants can benefit from free admission to festival performances and other accompanying events.

 

Promotion and Consent

The registering entity gives the festival organizer a full consent to use photos or short sequences of the competition film up to the length of 2 minutes with the intention of promoting the film and the whole festival in electronic and print media, including the festival catalogue.

By the registration of the film for the festival, the registering entities consent to all the provisions of the Statute and Terms and Conditions of the IFF ETNOFILM ČADCA 2022.
